Matte paint finishes…
With more manufacturers offering special matte finishes for paint it is becoming more popular to go for the matte finish to stand out on the road against the traditional gloss paint finish.
Popular cars with matte finish include the Mercedes EQC, BMW i8, Bentley Continental, BMW M3 and even Fiat, Smart and Kia are offering premium matte finishes. And although matte paint is a very luxurious stand-out finish it can be a hassle to maintain.
Matte paint isn’t the same as gloss, under a microscope it will appear rough and irregular compared to the smooth finish of gloss paint. Therefore with matte paint you can’t use abrasives such as clay bars and polish because it will alter the finish of the matte paint making it look un-even.
Therefore if a scratch occurs of any form or some bird poo etches into the paint then the only solution is a re-spray! And finding someone who specialises in matte finishes isn’t easy so often you end up having to go back to the dealer!
That is why it is super important to get the paintwork coated with a good quality ceramic coating. Especially as matte paint is often a £1500+ extra!
