What is a Ceramic coating?
A ceramic coating, in the context of automotive detailing and protective coatings, refers to a liquid polymer that is applied to the exterior surfaces of a vehicle. Once applied and cured, it forms a strong and durable layer that bonds chemically with the vehicle's paintwork, creating a protective barrier.
The primary purpose of a ceramic coating is to provide enhanced protection to a vehicle's paint and other surfaces from various environmental contaminants and damage. Some of the benefits of a ceramic coating include:
Scratch Resistance: While not completely scratch-proof, a ceramic coating can provide a higher level of resistance to light scratches and swirl marks compared to untreated paint.
Chemical Resistance: The coating offers protection against harsh chemicals, road salts, and other contaminants that could otherwise damage the paint over time.
UV Protection: A ceramic coating can help shield the vehicle's paint from the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays, preventing fading and oxidation.
Hydrophobic Properties: Ceramic coatings often exhibit hydrophobic properties, causing water and other liquids to bead up and slide off the surface. This makes cleaning the vehicle easier and reduces water spotting.
Gloss Enhancement: The coating can enhance the visual appearance of the vehicle's paint by providing a deep, glossy finish.
Longevity: Depending on the quality of the coating and proper maintenance, a ceramic coating can last for several years, providing long-lasting protection.
It's important to note that the effectiveness and durability of a ceramic coating depend on factors such as the quality of the product used, the preparation of the vehicle's surface before application, and the maintenance routine followed after application. Proper and regular maintenance, including gentle washing techniques, will help maximise the benefits of a ceramic coating.
Being a fully mobile service we use three different ceramic coatings which are nice unfussy coatings which can be applied outside as long as it is not raining. They are specially designed for mobile valeters and detailers with short cure times.
The three different coatings we offer are:
Infinity Wax Synergy 1 Year Ceramic Coating - £99
Infinity Wax Synergy 2 Year Ceramic Coating - £149
Performance People Reign 7 Year Ceramic Coating - £249
Applying a ceramic coating typically requires careful surface preparation, such as thorough cleaning, decontamination, and sometimes paint correction (removing imperfections), before the coating is evenly applied and allowed to cure which is often best done by a trained professional.
